Mt. Baldy is ablaze this week as firefighters battle a wildfire covering 300-acres. Nestled in the Angeles National Forest about 45 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles, the fire was reported on Tuesday morning before sunrise and continued to grow as 240 firefighters were unable to control the flames.

Although no structures were burned and the orange flumes burned away from residential areas, firefighters have been concerned that rising temperatures could add to the fire's mobility. Heat adds a challenge to containing a fire because it warms the fuels as the fire moves, adding to the hazard by accelerating its ignition. Concerns continued as firefighters worked diligently to contain the fire, knowing full well that this year yields potential for continued damage. Ongoing drought conditions and dried fuels pose a hazardous combination for communities in fire hazard zones.
