Current research has shown that most homeowners move to improve their lives. In a recent poll taken in March of this year on the website Relocation.com it was discovered that nearly half who took the survey indicated that they had recently moved to improve their living situation. The poll showed that some of their reasons given for moving included moving to a bigger home or a better neighborhood.
The number one reason for moving was to live in a bigger/better home (26 percent), with living in a better neighborhood or area in second place (24 percent).
In a second poll, just taken this past July on the same website, the survey showed that 50 percent indicated that the recession has played a bigger role in their decision to move.
What's interesting is the change between the March and July surveys which shows evidence that consumer attitudes have shifted. As more people take advantage of the current favorable real estate deals combined with falling rental rates, they are showing a boost in consumer confidence.
Despite the tough economy, people are still moving being motivated by the same things that motivated them before which is to make a better life for themselves. The survey taken in July indicated that consumers are once again starting to return to making positive moving choices, and fewer moves based on the economy.
With government and state incentives to buy a home, in addition to lowering home prices, all attributed to the recent boost home sales.
Lower demand for housing has also lowered rents in many major cities around the nation which has benefited renters. Of the people surveyed in July a large percentage were renters who moved into new rentals by obtaining cheaper rental rates.
Other reasons given for moving included moving closer to family or friends and looking for work or starting a new job.
As the economy changes so do the reasons and motivations of those looking to better their lives. Whether it's moving to a bigger or better home or to become a homeowner rather than being a renter, no matter how you look at it the housing market is improving.
