The generosity of desert community realtors never ceases to amaze me, and even more so at this time of economic uncertainty. For instance, a Valentine's Day Cake Auction at a weekly Palm Springs Regional Association of Realtors office meeting yielded over $4000 for Boys and Girls Clubs of Cathedral City and other community charities (to feed the hungry, etc.) And there is so much more.
This time of year in the desert is golf tournament season, often supported by realtors and affiliates, with proceeds allocated to local charities. The California Desert Association of Realtors has an annual tournament to benefit local high school scholarships, as does the Desert Escrow Association with annual events to give local high school students scholarships.
But golf isn't the only way to have fun while lending a hand. Organizations such as Women's Council of Realtors, Palm Springs Desert Cities have several events during the year such as Fashion Shows and Bunco nights with auctions to raise funds for keeping a local children's shelter running. The Boards of Realtors, Women's Council of Realtors and Desert Escrow Association are all organizations that provide education to their local realtors as well as taking care of the needs of the less fortunate in their area.
And education is, of course, never out of style when it comes to sharing. On February 10, the California Desert Association of Realtors presented Lawrence Yun, Ph.D., N.A.R. Chief Economist at the Agua Calenti Casino ballroom for the 2009 Real Estate Market Trends Update & Forecast. On February 13, the Women's Council of Realtors presented a "Wonder Woman Panel" of successful women to share their knowledge.
What a wonderful mixture of education and charity! Realtors getting involved in their communities are really helping weave a wonderful fabric. After all, without community, a home is just a house.
