Taking safety into account, federal agriculture officials have announced that California will no longer spray a pesticide for the light brown apple moth. Instead of fighting this nuisance of leaf-grubber aerially, matters will be attended to on its home turf, implementing such tactics as the release of sterile moths and other ground methods that bear less of an environmental risk.
The decision was based on the concerns of both government representatives and of thousands of residents in the areas marked by the light brown apple moth. Although spraying had been scheduled for later this past summer in moth-affected areas, once safety came into question, alternative methods were discussed and the spraying was taken off the calendar. Once again, California can take pride in its environmental consideration and the resulting action!
