California has become a healthier a place to live. At least that is what Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is hoping as he signed legislation on Friday that bans restaurants and "food facilities" from using trans fats. Trans fats are in cooking ingredients like oil, margarine and shortening.

Many restaurants and fast food establishments have already abolished the use of the artery-clogging ingredient, mostly in response to their clientele's request. California becomes the first state put a law on the books banning trans fats.

The new law follows precedent from New York and Philadelphia's citywide ordinances banning the fats.
