It's a beautiful town and recently San Francisco voters showed support for a measure that will allow Lennar Corp to redevelop a section of the bay area that includes the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard and the Candlestick Point area.
Closed down in 1994, the naval ship yard is a relic of World War II and has left behind a legacy of pollution. Officials say that a cleanup must be completed before Lennar can begin to redevelop in what they hope will be 2010. Many San Franciscans are joyous at the prospect of ridding their gorgeous city of some really nasty toxic waste.
This measure also affects the housing industry in that area. In place of the pollution Lennar will build 10,000 homes, 3,500 of which will be priced as affordable. They also plan to install almost 3 million feet of commercial and retail space. Leave it to San Francisco to clean things up and offer new housing opportunities at the same time.
