How much was your last fill up at the pump? A lot of people see the continually rising price of gas and contingency plans are starting to hit the table: Get one of those hip, new sub-compacts? Ride a bike? Find a new job closer to home? While all of these solutions are sound, in a hurting economy there is a trend that is leading some people away from the suburbs and back to apartments in the cities where they work.
Trends like this one make incredible marketing opportunities. An agent should approach management at places of business like local office buildings and factories, and demonstrate that an employee who drives less and is home more with family is a happier employee, making them a great benefit to the company. If they respond well then that agent should ask permission to set up a meeting in the lunch room, or common area, for the employees.
Now, imagine that they like what the agent has to say. As Joe Employee drives home that night in gridlock traffic, he thinks about how great it would be if he didn’t have to spend so much money on gas and how much more time he could devote to his family if he just lived closer to work. A positive emotion wells up inside him and when he finally gets home he and his wife discuss possible moving options. The industrious agent then gets a call because he/she targeted a group, spoke directly to their needs, marketing specifically to them.
Gas is at an all time high and it hurts our finances badly, but sometimes a negative in one place can become a plus in another. This is an amazing marketing opportunity that should not be overlooked.
