The closure of the Price Pfister plant in 2001 left a gaping hole on Pacoima's Paxton Street next to the 118 freeway after decades of faucets manufactured there. Well, that gap is about to be filled once again!

In spite of the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency's focus on controversial downtown L.A. developments, the board has reached its efforts to the San Fernando Valley, voting to provide $9.8 million for Costco and Best Buy to occupy the old factory space. The project, formally referred to as Plaza Pacoima, drew great support from the board and councilmen, who showed up to give the project the "thumbs up."

Currently contaminated, the site will be cleaned and restored by the developer, Primestor, and will acquire a freeway sign twice the height ordinarily permitted by the city. Such a show of support is how a community emerges from the stigma of tough times to be catapulted into a new era of desirability. It looks like good things are in store for Pacoima.
