Riverside County saw Mother Nature in a way most Southern Californians have not seen in along time: tornadoes. In the early afternoon shortly before the Memorial Day weekend, two twisters blew their way across the Interstate 215 and leaving behind hail, flooding, traffic jams and chaos.

Effects of the bizarre weather were felt in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, too. The wildfire ravaged canyons of eastern Orange County are now faced with mudslides and floods of water and debris. Closed roads and stranded residents in mudslide affected areas have kept bulldozers and workers busy. Flooding and rockslides hit freeways in Los Angeles County causing traffic backups for miles.

The weather system that created the twisters, caused when colder and unstable Canadian/Arctic air collides with the normally warm Southern California air, is not expected to move out just yet. With possibilities of thunderstorms across the Southland, the prospects for continued traffic problems and property damage still loom.
