The mortgage crisis has lead to a strange side effect for foreclosed homes in California because unattended, in-ground pools are full of water, left to themselves and stagnating for months. These pools are becoming welcome homes to mosquitoes and their soon-to-be-dangerous young, who carry the deadly West Nile Virus.

Enter the local environmental agencies. They're going into the foreclosed backyards and using an unorthodox method to clean up the problem: little fish that just so happen to love snacking on mosquito eggs. The fish can eat up to 500 eggs a day. Officials have succeeded in finding an environmentally friendly solution to a potentially dangerous foreclosure problem.
